Myanmar Sanctions List

Since the violent suppression of pro-democracy activists in 1988, international sanctions against Myanmar (also known as Burma) have targeted businesses controlled by the Tatmadaw (Myanmar's military), leadership of the ruling military junta and their families. Most formal sanctions against Myanmar businesses and nationals ceased in 2012, as the country began a process of democratic reforms.

However, the February 2021 military coup which toppled the civilian government of President Win Myint and State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi resulted in a new wave of targeted sanctions led by the US, UK and EU.
